2019-05-28 BURG to PORT path issues The BURG to PORT node link on 223.6 is weak and perhaps getting weaker. It still works more oftn then not but has retries. This is being looked into. ![]() 2018-12-11 10:33 Portland Node V2 Online Located at Industrial Automation Supply, 75 Industrial Way, Portland. Antenna: Comet CX-333 6.5dBi 2M, 7.8dBi 1.25M, 9.0 dBi 70CM Antenna Elevation a whopping 20'. Answers to KS1R-11 and PORT on both ports. Port 1: Maxon Radio, 145.05 User Port, beacon every 15 minutes. Port 2: Yeasu FT-33R on 223.6 Backbone to Burg, with NETROM. **Thanks W3VNE for the maxon **Thanks Cory KU1U for the 220 Yeasu HT **Thanks W1ZE for the power supply. 2018-08-21 BURG KS1R gets 1200baud 223.6MHZ Packet Port The BURG node or KS1R-1 now has a 1.25 Meter Packet Radio port on 223.6 Why 1.25 Meter band? Because that is all that is left. :) The two feed lines here now have.. Feed #1 Top antenna: 147.210 Analog and C4FM/ 447.575 D-Star / 23CM (personal use) Feed #2 Near Top: 145.01 packet / 223.6 packet / 444.4 Analog and WiresX Feed #3 is CRAP!!! 75 Ohm coax, high SWR, currently with a 1W radio connecting to Lenfest Mtn WD1O packet on 433.1. The 223.6 currently is just a user port. Seems all packet stuff in the area is on a single frequency of 145.01. At times it gets pretty out of hand with band enhancements its crazy. We hear packet stations from Mass to Canada. So for now the 223.6 port will provide a quiet place to connect to our node / bbs. In the future that may change. Why 223.6 for a frequency on 1.25 Meters. Using this ( http://www.arrl.org/band-plan ) as a general guide I just picked it. Based on this ( http://www.arrl.org/files/file/Technology/tis/info/pdf/8709054.pdf ) I may hvae picked badly. Please let me know if you have feedback on what would be an approprate frequency. Feedback to Donnie WD1F via the BURG BBS. If you have a 220 radio kicking around, give it a try. ![]() 2018-08-03 Packet on Spectrum Analyzer Rumor always was that 9600 baud packet was not legal on 2mtrs becaue of the bandwith. Reading indicated that was just not true. On top of that my new Kenwood radio TH-D74 does 1200 and 9600 baud packet on VHF. I decided to do some experimenting. Click the image above to enlarge it. Results show 9600 is no wider and in fact looks a touch narrower. 2018-08-03 BURG node formerly BRUNS There has been a name change in our node. It was called BRUNS because when it was first resurrected it had a burned EEPROM I knew nothing about how to make or edit. When I moved it I just kept the same name. Now that no longer makes sense so the name is now BURG to reflect its actual location Phippsburg. There is even rumors of a BRUNS node coming back on the air but not sure if / when that will happen. If it does it will be good news for all as it will be on Oak Hill in Brunswick and will provide much of the coverage we have been hoping for. ![]() 2018-07-17 9600Baud Transfer Test Results Check out the tests I just did transferring a 3K file. First at 1200 Baud, next at 9600 Baud. Setup 1: Linux ax25-tools, Kenwood TH-D74. Setup 2: Linux ax25-tools, Timewave PK-96 -- ID-880H 1200_9600_3KFile.mp4 1200_3KFile.mp4 9600_3KFile.mp4 2018-07-15 BRUNS node in Phippsburg software update The BRUNS node in Phippsburg has been having some issues lately with random pieces of text and resetting of TNC parameters. I believe this is something I caused while experimenting with some misc commands but I took the opportunity to update. The new software by N1URO is a bit more modern and supports some fancy new features such as call sign lookup, static links, better netrom integration and more. If your not yet familiar with the BRUNS node check it out. Be sure to type BBS while connected and drop me a message. WD1F More Information: https://uronode.n1uro.com ![]() 2018-07-15 Progress with PI-TNC 9600 baud Richard WD1O reported major progress with his 9600 Baud PI TNC board. After assembly, testing, and tweaking he has it up and running on a bench. After his experience he wrote up some notes and provided feedback to the creators including suggested corrections to the instructions. Richard also reports success with his TM-V71 at 9600 baud but only after installing a 'decoupling capacitor' His notes were pretty detailed, if your planning on purchasing one you may want to contact him for more details. I have purchased one and have made great progress with assembly. I look forward to testing soon. More Information: http://tnc-x.com/TNCPi9k6.htm 2018-06-22 WS1EC Node in Windham, ME comming soon! The WS1EC Packet Node (BPQ, Digi) shall be installed at the Cumberland EMA Center, Windam, ME. It has been running into a dummy-load for the past several days at my QTH in E. Waterboro, testing configuration files. Full details will be published. The marker icon is now visible on the Winlink RMS Packet map and also on the BPQ node map. An announcement shall be made, on this email reflector, once we ensure it is operating properly. An attempt will be made to get this station on the air the week of June 25th, likely late in the week. Stay tuned. News source N1XP Roger. 2018-06-22 KC1ETT digipeter on air at Wells Town Hall (York County) A digipeater is now on the air at Wells Town Hall (York County) under the callsign KC1ETT-3. It is a wide-area digi, operating AX.25 on 145.01 MHz at 1200 baud. KC1ETT, AA1LO, AI2Q, and N1QX are now using this node and others (especially our TCP/IP 2-meter nodes) to route Internet Protocol packets in our area. We are using KA9Q software. It handles ftp, smtp, and Telnet, as well as PBBS e-mail, Netrom, and digipeating. Most "connections" are datagrams, using UI frames. ![]() 2018-05-18 WD1O NODE, BBS, RMS Gateway Updates Richard WD1O reports the packet station at Lenfest, BBSLEN on 433.1, has had significant updates and is now maintainable from remote. The call sign and suffixes have changed. WD1O-1 is the bbs, -4 RMS Gateway, and -5 is the node itself. You can also use its alias of bbslen. Switching between the bbs and node is easy using bbs and node commands. If your station is on VHF keep in mind its reachable via the BRUNS node which has both VHF and UHF ports. The updated packet map reflects these changes as well as the addition of the new packet station N1ZRL in Lisbon Falls. I have also increased the packet maps resolution. A link on the left side should get you to the updated packet map. You may need to refresh your browser. ![]() 2018-04-21 Raspberry PI Packet Meetup Raspberry PI Packet meetup will be 2018-04-21at Industrial Automation Supply, 75 Industrial Way, Portland, ME 04103. This is across from Alagash Brewing in Portland. The conference room is small and will likely fit 8 at the table, 12 in the room. Please RSVP. If we get too many people I may look for an alternative location. I will plan to be here by 9 and keep the space available it least until noon, perhaps longer. You can show up when convenient for you. We will likely focus on the following hardware and software.. http://www.tnc-x.com/TNCPi.htm http://www.qsl.net/ah6rh/am-radio/packet/jnos.html However other hardware and software options are welcome. **Its likely we will be trying figuring this out for the first time. Please keep expectations in check. :) ![]() 2018-03-31 Packet Meeting Today I attended the 2018 Androscoggin Amateur Radio club's hamfest and ARRL State Convention. I attended the Packet Round Table hosted by WD1O Richard. There were some people standing in the room as all the seats were full. Seems there is plenty of interest in packet in our area. There was discussion of a mailing list being formed to help coordinate efforts to expand and improve packet in Maine. ![]() A mailing list has been started for Maine Packet. Please join if your interested. Thanks! Groups.io Maine Packet Radio ![]() Updated: 2018-04-03 15:17 Maine Packt Map. Please send updates to WD1F. |
